Solana Center
Did you know that California state law currently prohibits the disposal of light bulbs that contain mercury, such as compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) in the trash?
Instead, bring them to the
Solana Center located at 137 N. El Camino Real in Encinitas (behind the Sheriff's station). Check their website for
hours. They also accept LED bulbs, e-waste, & batteries.
Solana Center also offers rain barrels
(get a $65 rebate)
and compost bins/accesories for sale, and even has a
Garden Tool Lending Library that includes
a variety of gardening and carpentry tools available. And if you want to learn more about
Green Living, they offer workshops on topics such as composting and water harvesting.

Secure Drop-boxes for Prescription Drugs
The San Diego County's Sheriff Department and the County Board of Supervisors have a drop-off collection program for unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs.
These items have been determined to present substantial risks to our community by either falling into the wrong hands, or by damaging our environment through improper disposal.
Secure collection drop-boxes have been installed at several Sheriff's facilities, including the
Encinitas Station located at:
175 North El Camino Real,
Encinitas, CA 92024
Community members are now welcome to come to any of the facilities where unwanted medications may be turned in anonymously.
For other drop-off locations, see the website:
safe.pharmacy which may
inform you whether your local CVS pharmacy location has a drop-off box.
